National Dental Hygiene Month in October

October is National Dental Hygiene month and the Yuba City Dental Group is proud to help our patients have the best oral health possible during this month and on every day of the year. Since candy consumption peaks at the end of October and the start of November, it’s a perfect time to review the “Daily 4” that highlights this October campaign for dental hygiene.

Brush

Effectively brush your teeth with the proper technique. First, hold your brush at a 45 degree angle. Gently brush in circular motions using tooth wide strokes. Touch every tooth, front and back. For extra fresh breath and bacteria reduction, brush your tongue too!

Floss

Most people do not floss regularly, mostly because it’s just not that important to them. To trained professionals, like our dental team, we know the importance of flossing daily and notice right away if you don’t floss. Gums are firm, pink and fit tightly around the teeth if they are regularly flossed. If you do it daily, flossing will not hurt and your gums should not bleed. To floss effectively, do not use a sawing motion between teeth. Instead, gently place the floss between each tooth and slowly go up and down the side of the tooth. With practice, it will become a habit. Taking the time to floss daily prevents you from spending more time in the dental chair later!

Rinse

The ADHA (American Dental Hygienist Association) recommends rinsing daily with antimicrobial mouthwash to reduce the cavity risk and freshen breath. Regular use of fluoride mouthwash also helps to remineralize teeth and strengthen them.

Chew

Chew sugarless gum after meals. Doing so not only freshens your breath, but also helps to neutralize acid and promote saliva flow to wash away food particles and remineralize teeth.

Doing these “Daily 4” is a great way to start or continue taking care of your teeth! The Yuba City Dentistry Group cares about the oral health of your whole family. Schedule your appointment or contact us for questions about the best ways to maintain your smile.

Dr. Cheema was great and so was the staff. Definitely made it easy and a lot less stressful on me. His main concern was my well being and pain. Best experience I've had with a dentist.
