If you’ve recently received the PROPEL treatment at the Yuba City Dentistry Group, your dentist has no doubt provided specific instructions.
He or she may also refer you to this web page. Therefore, by way of reminder, please remember the following:
- Rinse your mouth using hydrogen peroxide three times a day. (Make sure you don’t dilute your doctor’s recommended solution.) The oxygen bubbles in hydrogen peroxide serve as a disinfectant and help the affected areas to heal more quickly. If you find the taste difficult to handle, feel free to use a tongue scraper, and follow by brushing your teeth and/or using a flavored mouthwash.
- DO NOT take anti-inflammatory medications (such as aspirin and ibuprofen). The inflammatory reaction produced by the PROPEL method is necessary for proper healing and faster tooth movement; therefore, these medications actually reduce the effectiveness of the procedure. Any discomfort will continue to dissipate and should be significantly reduced within 48 hours.
- STAY AWAY from spicy and acidic foods (citrus fruits, hot sauce, etc.) as these can cause discomfort or even burn affected areas.
- Continue to wear your orthodontic appliance as directed by your doctor.
