Cleft and Craniofacial Awareness and Prevention

National Campaign Brings Attention to Cleft Lip and Palate Repair

Cleft lip and cleft palate are common birth defects affecting a child’s appearance and also how they eat and speak. Most children with this condition undergo surgery to repair the cleft at 1-2 years of age. Cleft lips are usually repaired earlier at 3-6 months. It is usually necessary to do palate correction in stages, throughout a child’s growing years, to accommodate  changing facial structures.

The Yuba City Dentistry Group provides early dental care for cleft lip and cleft palate patients as part of a cleft palate treatment team. If your child has a cleft lip or palate, our caring Yuba City dental professionals understand how important it is to treat your child with compassion. We also provide the results you seek so your child looks and feels their best. Our Yuba City family dentist recommends that the first dental visit be scheduled for one year of age or even earlier if there are dental problems, like a cleft.

July is National Cleft and Craniofacial Awareness and Prevention month. The organization cleftAdvocate brings attention to these conditions and educates the public about cleft palate and craniofacial issues, providing awareness and hope for children and their families. A primary message is that it is very important that children with cleft lip or palate receive the best dental and medical care possible as soon as possible. I haven’t actually had anything done yet, however everyone seems to be friendly and professional. I’m scheduled to have teeth pulled next week. I hope it all goes well so I can write a good review. But so far so good!Well I went in to have some extractions. And I have never been more nervous in my life, bc there was a lot that needed to be taken out. But first, the staff assured me there was nothing to fear. Then the doctor came in and started giving me shots. Which in the past doctors have hurt me bad, but the doctor took his time and there was hardly any discomfort. And before he did any extractions he felt around and made sure nothing was felt. It's the first time a dentist has done that. I was extremely impressed. I will go to this dentist for the rest of my life. Thx Rich
