Yuba City Dental Health Tips

The Yuba City Dentistry Group believes in looking out for our patients and giving them the best opportunity to have good dental health. With that in mind, our Yuba City dentistry family would like to remind you that the American Dental Association (ADA) has a set of simple steps to help your whole family maintain dental health.

ADA Dental Health Tips

Brush your teeth two times a day for two minutes. The ADA calls this “2×2” or “Two times two.” Brushing your teeth every day keeps bacteria under control and prevents plaque and tartar buildup, saving teeth and gums from cavities and disease. Don’t forget to floss before you brush for best results, because flossing before brushing helps the fluoride in your toothpaste work most effectively to protect your teeth.

Eat healthy snacks, including lots of fruits and vegetables. It’s not good for your teeth when you eat sticky candy or sugary cookies since these stick to teeth and encourage acids that erode tooth enamel.

Limit or avoid drinking sodas, juices and sports drinks with a lot of sugar. Drink water instead, preferably tap water. Tap water is often fluoridated and this protects teeth against cavities and decay by building strong tooth enamel. You can filter your tap water at home if you do not like the taste and still keep the fluoride benefits.

Wear a mouthguard when you play sports. Most dental emergencies are due to mouth injuries when a mouthguard has not been worn. Of course, if you do have a dental emergency, the Yuba City Dentistry Group is available to help!

Visit your dentist regularly! One of our Yuba City dentists will help you take care of your teeth, so stick to the recommended schedule to have your teeth cleaned and examined every six months. Plaque buildup needs to be professionally removed for best dental health and allowing our dentists to examine your mouth allows us to catch problems before they are too serious and more expensive.
