In most cases where patients experience issues with crooked or crowded teeth, a misaligned bite, or a gap in the smile, your Yuba City Dentist will recommend traditional orthodontic treatment (such as braces).
However, in recent years a new treatment has surfaced that promises to be shorter and less expensive than traditional methods. The treatment is called Six Month Smiles.
What is the Six Month Smiles method, and is it right for you? Let’s take a closer look.
The Six Month Smiles Approach
Six Months Smiles focuses on treating only the front 6 to 8 upper and lower front teeth. Your dentist will attach the special, proprietary braces provided by Six Month Smiles to a patient’s teeth, which will then use gentle forces to guide the teeth into position. Similar to traditional braces, a patient needs to come in periodically (usually every four weeks) for adjustment of the appliance.
Six Month Smiles Vs. Braces
At the Yuba City Dentistry Group, we’ve used the Six Month Smiles system to help a number of patients improve the position and appearance of their teeth. In some case it is an effective substitute for braces that takes less time and produces good results. However, it’s important to know that the Six Month Smiles approach is not appropriate for every patient and every situation requiring orthodontic treatment.
In addition to moving the front teeth, treatment using conventional orthodontics also addresses problems involving the posterior teeth as well as the jaw. This makes conventional orthodontics much more comprehensive than the Six Month Smiles method. The Six Month Smiles system is designed for patients whose main concern is aligning the front teeth. The system works best in moving the teeth that show when you smile, without significant changes to your overall bite.
